Pulp Cover of the Day

Here’s the issue dated December 8, 1934.  If the woman on the cover looks familiar, it’s because it’s Daisy Bacon, editor of LOVE STORY MAGAZINE. Tired of criticism from other editors that she only used blondes on the covers of LOVE STORY, she decided to thumb her nose at her rivals and put herself on the cover. This little gag even merited attention in Walter Winchell’s famous column. Painted by the venerable Modest Stein.

  1. Thanks for the inside story about this cover. Knowing it’s a portrait of Daisy Bacon makes it so much more interesting. When your book about Daisy is published this would make a great cover…
